Understanding THCa & Its Role in Hemp

What is THCa? THCa (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in both hemp and marijuana. In its raw form, THCa is non-psychoactive, but when heated, it converts into THC, producing intoxicating effects.

🔥 THCa in Cannabis

Raw cannabis flower can contain 30-40% THCa but remains non-intoxicating unless heated.

Once smoked, vaped, or cooked, THCa decarboxylates into Delta-9 THC, creating psychoactive effects.

Why Does THCa Matter?

Therapeutic Potential – Supports inflammation relief, digestion, and neuroprotection.

Legal Status – Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived THCa is legal as long as THC remains below 0.3% by dry weight.
When SB 494 passed, many patients lost their medicine. Not everyone is legally allowed to purchase marijuana from corporate medical operations and depended on THCa.

🏥 Medical Benefits of THCa & High THC Levels

✔ Legal Status – Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived THCa is legal as long as THC remains below 0.3% by dry weight.

Pain Management – THC is widely used for chronic pain relief, making high-THCa strains beneficial for patients with severe pain conditions.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties – THCa has anti-inflammatory effects, which may help with arthritis, autoimmune disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Nausea & Appetite Stimulation – THC is commonly prescribed for chemotherapy-induced nausea and appetite loss in patients with wasting syndromes.

Neuroprotective Potential – Studies suggest THCa may have protective effects on brain cells, making it a candidate for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s research.

💡 Why High THCa Levels Matter

Higher THCa content means more THC after heating, making it more effective for patients needing strong symptom relief.

THCa can be consumed raw for non-psychoactive benefits, allowing access to therapeutic effects without intoxication.

✔ Once decarboxylated, the resulting THC percentage depends on efficiency of conversion—typically around 80-90% of the original THCa content becomes THC. Strains with high THCa levels are often preferred for medical cannabis patients seeking potent relief.

⚠️ Georgia’s Hemp Industry in Danger

SB 494 blocks hemp retailers from selling THCa products.

Small businesses suffer while corporate cannabis expands.

Advocacy groups like the GA CIA are fighting for repeal to restore access.
